Being alone is a choice that a person makes. When someone spends time alone, it often means they’ve tried socializing but didn’t fit in or due to various personal reasons they choose, being alone doesn’t mean a person is lonely. Personally, I started being alone because I felt my thoughts did not match with those around me, or I just wasn’t with the right people. It might sound strange, but I stopped talking to many people. Once you start and feel good about spending time alone, there’s no going back. At this stage, there’s little chance I’ll make new friends and I barely talk to anyone.
Interestingly, whenever a reel about being alone appears in my feed—like someone eating alone in a restaurant, shopping alone, going on a ride, or doing their favorite activities solo—I feel inspired. I started doing these things myself. It makes me feel confident, free, and enough on my own.
People often choose alone time because those around them don’t match their vibe. However, when these individuals meet someone who does, they love having a companion. Who wouldn’t want a good friend circle to spend quality time with?
Perks You Get While Spending Time Alone –
Joy of Being Alone
Finding Peace
Life is often Hectic, alone time helps you to heal and relax and you’ll understand your thoughts and feelings better. Think of it’s a break for your mind.
Helps to Focus on Creativity
I found many creative people enjoy being alone. Alone time helps them to inspire and work better with their new ideas.
Personal Growth
Getting to know yourself
When you are alone, it helps to explore yourself and what you like. It’s like a conversation with yourself and learning new things about your personality.
Not Need to Depending on Others
When you learn to enjoy being alone, you feel more confident and capable. You don’t require others to make you happy and that’s a powerful feeling.
Additionally, after being social for a long time, people may need a break and choose to be alone. Just like social exhaustion, being alone for too long can lead to feelings of loneliness and boredom. At that point, people crave someone to share their thoughts and life with. Some people prefer long-term solitude and don’t want friends or company, while others struggle with loneliness.
For example, I find it hard to make new friends because I’m a little afraid of new interactions. I haven’t contacted old friends in a long time. When I feel down, I tend to disappear or ghost people. I know it’s not ideal, but it helps me to heal. On Saturdays, I often feel bored. I open Instagram to scroll through reels, and I check WhatsApp but find no messages. How can I expect texts when I haven’t replied to any? I haven’t talked on the phone with anyone in ages. I open Snapchat, but it’s been 4- 6 months since I last opened a snap from anyone. It sounds silly but then I wonder, “Why do I feel so alone?”
